Secondary may be Primary
The Grambling secondary appears to be the strongest position on the Tiger defense in 2006. Speed and depth projects this unit to be the strongest in the SWAC, if not of all Black College Football. Greg Fassitt, DeMichael Dizer and Zaire Wilborn return to a group that allowed 7 touchdown passes in the conference last season. Greg Fassitt led the team in pass breakups last season, and pretty much dared opposing quarterbacks to throw his way last season. DeMichael Dizer led the Tigers in interceptions last season with four, and Zaire Wilborn has Melvin Spears receiving phone calls from NFL Scouts. Bakari Guice returns to action this year after missing all of last season. Guice will be looking to secure a spot opposite of Greg Fassitt. Guice’s 4.3 in the 40-yard dash will be hard to argue with. However, high profile transfer Phillip Brown will be up to the challenge. Brown was rated as the 5th best cornerback coming out of high school by rivals.com, and the number 9 JUCO player in the nation last season. When you add Jeffery Jack and James Nelson’s names into the mix along with other returning players, you can see why this will be the strongest unit on the Tiger defense.
