The Legacy Continues????????
Brandon Landers looks to continue the legacy of great quarterback play at Grambling State University in 2006. Landers who was named SWAC freshmen of the year in 2004, passed for over 2200 yards and 18 touchdowns will battle comparrison all season. Landers sat out all of last season and became a witness to the record setting season by former Tiger quarterback Bruce Eugene. Eugene passed for over 4400 yards and 56 touchdowns last year. While Landers won’t be expected to put those type of numbers up, he will be expected to air it out to that coveted receiving core. Landers is the presumptive starter, however he doesn’t have the position on lock. Larry Kerlegan, who Grambling's coaching staff raved about prior to his arrival on campus, hasn’t really shown the type of results that fans expected. Granted, Kerlegan only attempted seven passes last season, of that number, only one was completed which resulted in a touchdown. Kerlegan is a player who plays more with his legs then his arm. In this Grambling offense, which requires someone who can air it out, Kerlegan must get rid of those happy feet! The name that Tigers fans can expect to see more of in the near future is prep signee Desmond Brentley. Brentley was rated as the 34th best quarterback in the 2006 prep class by ESPN.com, will challenge Landers as a freshman and may ultimately surpass him as the starter next season.
